Nursing
West Ridge provides 24 hour nursing care through Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants.  Nursing care for all levels of need can be met by West Ridge.  There is an interdisciplinary wound care team that assesses our Elders' skin conditions on a weekly basis to assure optimum skin integrity.  It is the goal of the Nursing department to enable each Elder to maintain the highest level of functioning for as long as possible.  There is a full time rehabilitation aide on each floor.  West Ridge is a training site for professional nursing students from local colleges and certified nursing assistants enrolled in the High School Health Careers program through Kirkwood Community College.  Our Director of Nursing oversees the staff of nurses and certified nursing assistants.  The MDS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the assessment and care planning process for each Elder.

Therapy
With an emphasis on rehabilitation, the therapy team provides innovative treatment approaches to assist our Elders in returning to their normal and viable lifestyle.  Our rehabilitation professionals include occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and speech language pathologists.  Our program delivers the highest standard of quality care in the most cost-effective and value-added manner.  Individualized treatment programs are designed to serve geriatric patients in a wide variety of clinical categories.  Click on the Rehabiltiation Services for more information about the therapy programs available at West Ridge

Social Services
West Ridge employs a full time Social Worker.  Bridget Sipes, LBSW, works closely with families from the time of their initial inquiry.  She serves as the Elder's advocate throughout their stay at West Ridge.  Working closely with hospital discharge planners from local and outlying hospitals in addition to referring long-term care facilities, both local and out of town, also fall within her department.  When an Elder has completed their therapy program, Bridget works with the him or her and their family for a return home or to a lesser level of care.  Often this includes coordinating appropriate therapies, home health services and other services available in the community.  She handles counseling issues on an as needed basis and is part of the Care Plan Team.

Dietary
Meals are an important part of everyone's day.  At West Ridge we make a special effort to prepare foods that are not only nutritious, but delicious.  Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter menus are served on a four week cycle.

We start each morning with breakfast made to order and dining time is flexible.  Each Elder can start out with fruit and a variety of breads or rolls and hot or cold cereals.  Then they can order from several choices of entrees which may include but are not limited to: pancakes, waffles, made-to-order eggs, bacon, and sausage.

Choices of entree, potato and vegetable are offered at lunch and dinner.  Personal preferences are honored whenever possible.
