General Philosophy of Care
While we cannot reverse the course of aging, we can assist our Elders to be as comfortable as possible in the home-like setting of West Ridge Care Center. West Ridge's atmosphere of acceptance emphasizes resepect for the Elders' dignity and privacy. Our Elders live in harmony with their surroundings and are encouraged to be as independent as possible for as long as possible.
West Ridge adheres to the Principles and Philosophies of the Eden Alternative, continously striving to make West Ridge a home where life and sponteneity are a part of every day. Each person that joins the West Ridge family, be it Elder, family member, staff or volunteer, has the opportunity and ability to grow, contribute to their surroundings and be well-known by others who are a part of this community. It is an ongoing journey that we hope never ends.
In part, the mission statement for the Eden Alternative states: "The core econcept of the Eden Alternative is strikingly simple. We must teach ourselves to see nursing homes as habitats for human beings rather than institutions for the frail and elderly. We must learn what Mother Nature has to teach us about the creation of vibrant, vigorous habitats. The Eden Alternative seeks to eliminate the three plagues of the long term care institution- loneliness, helplessness and boredom. We want to show others how companion animals, the opportunity to care for other living things and the variety and sponteneity that mark an enlivened environment can succeed where pills and therapies fail."
